Smart Mobs was a term coined by Howard Rheingold to describe the use of the internet and mobile technologies to connect people for some purpose. Since that coinage there have been many divergent definitions of Mobs. A fun new one is Flash Mobs.
These events are organized with a geographical location and a kooky byline / agenda to get people into it. Some of my favorites are Spinning in Circles in San Francisco, doing The Robot in Mall of America, and Making Bird Noises in Central Park.
